Met-Ed – Vegetation Management Helicopter Patrols
FirstEnergy’s Vegetation Management team will be simultaneously conducting two types of annual aerial patrols, LiDAR and visual, on all Transmission Lines across the entire FirstEnergy Transmission system across to gather information pertaining to corridor condition and identify any vegetation conditions that may be a threat to the safety and reliability of the transmission system and warrant further inspection from the ground or corrective action.
For the wide scope of this effort, multiple helicopters from two different contractors will be utilized to conduct the patrols starting June 1, 2021 through the end of September, 2021, weather permitting.
The pilot(s) will be in communication with any local Airports, when in their airspace. The aircraft(s) will be flying at a speed of about 35-40 mph at approximately 300-400 feet above the transmission lines and may circle around as needed.
For the safety of all involved, please allow these crews significant distance to conduct their work safely. Thank you for your time and consideration.
